Mr. Swanson represents individuals and businesses in financial reorganizations, restructurings, bankruptcy, receiverships and other debt adjustment strategies. Representation is limited primarily to debtors in both simple and complex matters.
Mr. Swanson has represented debtors in Chapter 11 reorganizations, Chapter 12 farm reorganizations, Chapter 7 liquidations and Chapter 13 repayment plans. He also serves as a State Court Receiver in liquidation proceedings supervised by Circuit Court Judges and has served as a panel trustee for the United States Bankruptcy Court for the Eastern District of Wisconsin since 1982.
Notable administration and liquidation of Chapter 7 debtors include Badger Northland, Inc., Fred Rueping Leather Company, Bird Trucking Company and Universal Foundry Company. Recently, Mr. Swanson served as the Receiver for Creative Custom Homes and liquidated almost 90 newly constructed homes in the Fox River Valley area for the benefit of secured lenders as well as general creditors.
Larger Chapter 11 debtor representations include Palmer Johnson, Inc., Thornberry Creek Golf Club, Stone Harbor Hotel & Conference Center, Advance Systems, Inc., Milwaukee Boiler Company, George Hougard and Sons, Inc., G&S Machine Company, Inc., and others.
Recent out of court restructuring cases of note include White Clover Dairy, Inc. as well as several other representations within the cheese industry.
Mr. Swanson has been Board Certified by the American Board of Certification in both business and consumer bankruptcy since 1993, a distinction shared by only a handful of bankruptcy lawyers in Wisconsin.

Other Legal Activities:
Mr. Swanson is a frequent lecturer nationally on topics relating to bankruptcy. He has spoken at annual meetings of the National Association of Bankruptcy Trustees, the American Bankruptcy Institute, the State Bar of Wisconsin as well as for other continuing legal education seminars. He is the organizer of the Bankruptcy Section for the Annual Law Education Institute Conference held annually in Vail, Colorado providing continuing education for lawyers from coast to coast. Additionally, he teaches a graduate level course in the College of Business at the University of Wisconsin, Oshkosh acquainting MBNA candidates with the nature and diversity of bankruptcy and insolvency issues in business.
